Before I start off, I just have to say Honor band is awesome! Glad you got to go.
I always love going with my other band-geek buddies, haha.
Now, for the actual critique. Now, you did a good job of doing an uncolored version of the original, it looks very nice. But the things I am mainly concerned with are the wings and the leg anatomy.
You should do more line work with the wings to give it the definition of actually being feathered. The base of the right wing is fine, but around the tip of the wing seems to be too smooth. The left wing is also a bit confusing, because it's difficult to perceive where it is actually coming from, and doesn't seem to be symmetrical to the right wing.
Onto the legs...
The right front leg looks good, but only slightly out of place. It appears too close to the head. The left front leg is a bit confusing, because all I see is the paw, and not the rest of the actual leg.
The right hind leg looks fine, but around the thigh is anatomically incorrect. For one it is too thick, and real fox legs don't really work like that.
Same advice for the left hind leg.
And for the tail, it seems to be connected to the actual leg. You should add some shading to where it connects, so it looks like it is near the rump, where it should be.
The spinal area of the fox also is strange, and if the fox were to be standing, it would appear awkward. The hump in the back, and the sudden straight line is what is bothersome.
But I understand you were not looking at real foxes, but rather a drawing of a mythical fox.
Now, onto shading.
You should add more, to give it value, since it all mostly looks one solid color. Darkening a bit where the shadows are will make it even more stunning and much more pleasing to look at, and add a bit of lighter shadows in the white to show where the fur lines up and all.
.
Since that is out of the way..
I really like the tribal markings, and the strings around its legs. I also love the calm and determined look of this piece!
I love this a lot.
So I'm just going to go favorite both now. xD
I'm also about to stalk your gallery because your stuff so far looks really nice!
